Great, you’ve decided to move house! Now it is time to start packing. Here are a few handy tips to make that packing (and unpacking) a whole lot easier.
An empty property is so much easier to clean. Without the need to lug boxes and items around it is also less stressful too. If possible, before you move all your items in to the property, clean away. Cleaning the bathroom and kitchen is probably the most important and ensures that you can eat something and have a shower after a hard days unpacking.
Pack an overnight bag or box that contains all of your daily essentials. A few clean clothes, toiletries including any contact lenses, glasses or simply toilet roll, any medication and expensive essentials such as a laptop.
Ensure that all items are organised into boxes or bags and are labelled in a really useful way. Label the tops and sides of boxes and even consider colour coordination so that a you know where the items belong in one glance. It’s important to know what is in the boxes, but also where that box should be unpacked.
Bag It Up
Keep smaller items such as earrings or screws and bolts in small sandwich bags. This technique is also great for keeping cords and electric wires from tangling and easy to identify with a sharpie or white label.
Get Some Help
Moving is stressful and if you can get some help, it is worth it. Friends and family are free, but if you can afford it, professionals may be the smarter choice. With their experience, removal companies will be able to help when it is most convenient for you and of course can provide moving vans. They are also more likely to have extensive experience of moving large pieces of furniture, which your family may not wish to haul up flights of stairs!
Time is of the Essence
Finally, do not leave packing until the last minute! Packing takes more time than you may think. However, simply pack one room at a time and you will get there in the end.
We hope that these tips help you in the packing stage of your move and if you have any tips that you wish to share, feel free to pop them in the comments.
